6 Ways To Keep Your Body Moving While Social Distancing

Updated: Jun 15, 2020

With everything going on in the world right now it's important to be practising social distancing. For some people, this may be easy but for you social butterflies out there it might be a little harder!

Between the gym-lovers and coach potatoes (I'm right there with you), we'll all be missing out on a little movement. Exercise is vital to keeping us physically and mentally healthy, even walking to work will have huge impacts on your lifestyle that you may not notice!

So for those of you self-isolating and working from home, it's a good idea to incorporate some movement into your day.

With the assistance of YouTube and a bit of imagination, there is a tonne of options right at your fingertips.

6 Ways To Keep Your Body Moving While You're Keeping Your Distance:

Yoga

I may be biased when I say, at home yoga is the BEST. It's perfect for all fitness levels and moods. If you're on your period, feeling anxious, or feeling energetic, there is a yoga sequence for you.

I'm a huge advocate of 'Yoga with Adriene' if you haven't tried at home yoga before. Adriene is a one of a kind instructor, who will make you feel like you're in the same room as her! It's a wonderful experience and great exercise to try.

Running

This may not be everyone's favourite activity but it's highly effective when trying to stay fit and healthy! If you're lucky enough to have a garden while you self-isolate, make use of it.

Run, jog, walk, stroll, crawl... I don't mind what you do but having a garden is ideal if you want a fresh space to workout.

Depending on your area, you may be able to leave your home to exercise - this is definitely something to take advantage of but please make sure you're staying away from people whoa re not in your household.

Dancing

This one is definitely underrated. Put on your favourite tune, sway, jump, breakdance and just move your body! Dancing is a fun way to work up a sweat and get your blood pumping.

Why not facetime your pals and dance together, you will get your daily dose of digital socialising in too!

Home Workouts

If the gym was your second home and you're keen to keep up those gains, now is the time to jump-start your home workouts!

If you don't already have weights at home, try bodyweight workouts or use household items. Fill a bag with books or grab a bag of sugar, the list is endless, however, do be careful with what you choose, we don't want any injuries! To take your workouts up a level, I highly recommend BND resistance bands; I used these relentlessly when I was a 5-day a week gym-goer and I swear by them for home workouts too!

Not sure what exercises to do? Invest in a guide or search YouTube for countless options. A guide I am eager to get my hands on is the BusyBee guide. I recommend this one in particular because there is a whole section on improving your mental health. If you don't already know I am a huge advocate for looking after your mental wellbeing and it fills me with joy to see someone promoting mental health alongside physical health!

Walk

If you're anything like me, you have days when you don't even want to get out of bed. If this is you, I urge you to do your best and simply go for a walk around your house, up and down the stairs or around the garden if you have either of these.

If walking is your kind of exercise and you have a dog, take those furry friends for a well-deserved walk!

Sex

OK, don't laugh, I see you.

If you're in quarantine with a partner, why not have some fun with your exercise! This is nothing to be ashamed of, we're all adults here and after all, it does burn calories.
